These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the GoldScout mobile app and website (together, the “Service”), provided by Star and Cosmos Technologies LTD(“we”, “us”, “our”), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17014702, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, London, WC2H 9JQ, England). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. What GoldScout is (and is not)
GoldScout is an independent price comparison service for gold coins offered by third-party UK dealers. We do not sell gold, hold client funds, take orders, or act as a broker, dealer, or financial institution.
GoldScout does not provide investment, financial, or tax advice. Nothing in the Service is a recommendation to buy or sell any product. Physical gold investments are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and are not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) or the Financial Ombudsman Service. The value of gold can go down as well as up, and past performance is not a guide to future performance. You are responsible for your own investment decisions and for taking independent advice where appropriate.
2. Pricing information and accuracy
Prices, premiums, buyback (“sell to us”) quotes, stock status, and tax classifications shown in the Service are indicative and are gathered from third-party dealer websites. They may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. Always verify the current price, availability, and terms directly with the dealer before making a purchase. We are not a party to any transaction between you and a dealer.
Information about the UK tax treatment of certain coins (for example, that UK legal tender coins such as Britannias and Sovereigns are exempt from Capital Gains Tax under TCGA 1992 s.21(1)(b)) is provided for general information only. Tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances and may change. We do not provide tax advice.
3. Affiliate links
Some links to dealers are affiliate links. We may receive a commission when you click through and make a purchase. This does not affect the prices shown, the order in which dealers appear, or our independence.
4. Subscriptions
GoldScout offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions that unlock additional features. Subscriptions are sold and managed through the Apple App Store, and the following terms apply:
- Plans & pricing. GoldScout Premium is available at £2.99 per month or £19.99 per year. Prices are in GBP and may vary by region; the exact price and billing period are always shown at the point of purchase. We may introduce additional subscription plans in future, which will be presented with their price and terms before you buy.
- Auto-renewal. Your subscription automatically renews for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
- Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account on confirmation of purchase.
- Managing & cancelling. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID account settings on your device.
- Refunds. Purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests are handled by Apple in accordance with its policies; we are unable to issue refunds directly for App Store purchases.
5. Your portfolio data
The portfolio (“My Stack”) feature stores the coins you record only on your device, in an encrypted vault protected by your device passcode or biometrics. We do not receive, store, or hold any copy of your holdings, and we have no means of accessing or recovering them.
You are responsible for keeping a backup. The app can export an encrypted backup file protected by a passphrase you choose; we cannot reset that passphrase or decrypt the file for you. If you delete the app, lose or reset your device, or lose your backup passphrase, your portfolio data may be permanently lost, and to the fullest extent permitted by law we accept no liability for that loss.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in breach of these Terms;
- scrape, copy, or systematically extract data from the Service for commercial redistribution;
- interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its infrastructure;
- reverse engineer or attempt to derive source code except to the extent permitted by law.
7. Intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, text, and branding, is owned by or licensed to Star and Cosmos Technologies LTD and is protected by intellectual property laws. Dealer names, logos, and product data belong to their respective owners and are used for identification and comparison purposes. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial use.
If you use the GoldScout app on an Apple device, your licence to the app software is also subject to Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Where these Terms and that agreement conflict in relation to the app software itself, that agreement prevails; these Terms continue to govern the Service, its content, and your subscription.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the information it contains is accurate or complete.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your reliance on price, premium, tax, or availability information, or from any purchase you make from a third-party dealer. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud.
9. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or withdraw all or part of the Service, or your access to it, at any time. You may stop using the Service at any time by deleting the app.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, subject to any mandatory consumer protection rights you may have in your country of residence.
