What is GoldScout?
GoldScout is an independent price comparison app for UK CGT-free gold coins. We show the same coin priced across several major UK bullion dealers so you can find the lowest premium over spot. We do not sell gold or provide investment advice.
Which gold coins are free of capital gains tax in the UK?
UK legal tender gold coins such as the Britannia, the Sovereign, the Queen's Beasts, the Tudor Beasts and the Royal Mint's Lunar series are exempt from capital gains tax under section 21(1)(b) of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992. Investment gold is also VAT-free in the UK. GoldScout only lists coins that qualify for both. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change.
Which dealers does GoldScout compare?
GoldScout compares prices from The Royal Mint, BullionByPost, Atkinsons Bullion, Chards and Hatton Garden Metals, and also shows what several of them pay when you sell coins back to them.
How often are prices updated?
Prices are gathered from dealer websites and refreshed periodically throughout the day. They are indicative. Always confirm the current price and availability with the dealer before purchasing.
Is GoldScout free?
Yes. Comparing coin prices across dealers is free, forever. An optional GoldScout Premium subscription (£2.99 a month or £19.99 a year, billed through Apple) adds price alerts, portfolio tracking, buyback comparisons and price history charts.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
GoldScout subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID. To view, change, or cancel, open the iOS Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid renewal. Refunds are handled by Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com.
Does GoldScout require an account?
No. You can browse all prices, comparisons, and charts without signing in. An account (via Sign in with Apple) is only needed to manage a subscription across your devices.
How is my data handled?
Your portfolio and alerts stay on your device and are never uploaded to our servers. See the Privacy Policy at goldscout.co.uk/privacy for full detail on what we process and your rights under UK GDPR.
Is GoldScout available on Android?
Not yet. GoldScout is an iPhone app available on the App Store in the United Kingdom, and requires iOS 26 or later.
